To perform a breast lift, skin is removed from around the areola, and then the new edges are pulled toward the center and sutured around the areola, providing good concealment of surgical scars. If more skin needs to be removed, it is usually taken from the lower breast, using an inverted “T” incision along the crease under the breast and from the middle of the crease to the bottom of the areola. In these cases, the nipple and areola are sometimes moved upward to restore a youthful look for women.
